The system is named Photonic Fence Monitoring Device (PFMD), developed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/photonicsentry.com\/\">Photonic Sentry<\/a>, a Global Health Labs venture. The Photonic Fence device provides the ability to monitor and track insects in flight without interfering with their behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Polo GGB installed two units inside two of the large cages hosted in the Ecology and Genetics laboratory to study flight and swarming behaviour of wild and genetically modified mosquitoes. The video system allows tracking the movement of insects to collect important data about how mosquitoes fly, mate and behave.<\/p>\n<p>The unique capability of the Polo GGB lab to host and study genetically modified mosquitoes in large cages combined with a quantified analysis of mosquito behaviour is a great addition to the research tools Polo GGB can use.<\/p>\n<p>Flight activity, distance, speed, position and flight trajectories can be visualised, quantified and analysed to provide useful data on mosquito behaviour and ecology in a wide variety of environmental conditions, within confined and controlled settings.<\/p>\n<p>The instalment of this high-definition video tracking system dramatically increases the research capabilities and services that Polo GGB can
