Position Summary
Polo GGB is hiring a Research Technician, a highly motivated person who will assist in all aspects of insectary work and support researchers in molecular analysis of mosquito strains.
Location: Ecology and Genetic Research Centre in Terni
Contract: CCNL Commercio, Full-time
Gross Annual Pay: To evaluate based on the experience
Benefit: Medical Insurance, Meal Voucher, Fourteen monthly salaries
Start-date: September 2023
Employment duration: 24 months, with possibility of extension subject to the availability of funding
Tasks and Responsibilities
– To act as a caretaker of wild type and transgenic mosquito strains, ensuring that mosquito colonies are maintained according to the highest quality standards in line with laboratory practices and procedures;
– To assist in molecular diagnostic assays to determine the genotypes, and in phenotypic assays and caged population experiments to assess fertility and competitive performance of modified mosquitoes, as needed;
– To keep legible and accurate record of research data;
– To interact on a daily basis with researchers;
– To regularly report on the progress of projects to other members of the laboratory
– To assist in the smooth running of the insectary facility;
– To ensure compliance with applicable safety, regulatory procedures and quality standards (UNI EN ISO 9001).
The successful candidate will work closely with the Scientific Manager, the insectary team and biosafety assistant on maintenance of mosquito strains, contributing to research experiments within a strict framework of regulatory compliance, and to support research activities as needed.
The ideal candidate is a team player with the ability to positively integrate in an international team, and with a can-do, problem-solving attitude.
Minimum Requirements
– Degree in Biological Science or equivalent
– Ability to speak and communicate in English
Preferred Qualifications
– Previous experience with insects (Drosophila and/or mosquitoes)
