“Gene Drive Reversal Strategies: Uses and Applications in the Laboratory and the Field.” This is the title of the event in the picturesque setting of Kolymbari, Crete, on July 13, 2024.
The initiative is organized with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a funder of many international research projects aimed at eradicating malaria, in which Polo GGB is involved: from the Target Malaria consortium to AnSex to Anti-Drive.
This event aims to bring together experts from various disciplines to discuss the latest advances in gene drive reversal methods and their potential field applications.
Gene drives represent a promising technology for controlling and potentially eliminating disease vectors such as malaria. However, as our understanding of these genetic tools advances, it becomes crucial to develop strategies to manage and potentially reverse their effects to ensure ecological balance and safety. The workshop will focus on current genetic methods for gene drive reversal and explore practical applications of these techniques in real-world scenarios.
