Polo GGB enriches its offering for women’s health by launching a new genetic test capable of detecting the composition of vaginal microbiota
The vaginal micribiota represents the collections of microorganisms present at the vaginal level, a cellular universe comprised of parasites, fungi, viruses and bacteria that characterize a condition of balance defined as “eubiosis” or an imbalanced state defined as “dysbiosis”.
An imbalanced vaginal microbiome can, over time, lead to vaginal infections such as candidiasis or bacterial vaginosis, and even predispose individuals to sexually transmitted diseases such as human papillomavirus (HPV) and chlamydia.
At times, in a state of dysbiosis, the vaginal microbiome can contribute to infertility due to its direct or indirect impact on the passage of sperm through the vaginal and endocervical canal.
Throughout a woman’s life, numerous internal factors (hormonal status, age, immune system balance) and external factors (antibiotic use, contraceptive device usage, infections) influence the vaginal microbiome. These factors modify its composition, sometimes favoring pathological conditions that can become chronic or recurring, significantly impacting women’s quality of life.
This test allows individuals to understand the composition of their own vaginal microbiome, providing gynecologists with a tool for investigation and, if necessary, qualitative and quantitative monitoring of women’s intimate health.
